Ted Lindsay Award

Most Outstanding Player as Voted by the NHLPA

About this trophy

Description: First awarded in 1970-71 (as the Lester B. Pearson Award), the Ted Lindsay Award is presented annually “to the most outstanding player as voted by fellow members of the NHLPA.”

History: The Ted Lindsay Award is the only NHL Trophy voted on by the players themselves, carrying on the tradition established by the Lester B. Pearson Award in 1970-71. Reintroduced in 2009-10, the Ted Lindsay Award honors its namesake, a Hockey Hall of Famer known for his skill, tenacity, leadership and role in establishing the NHLPA.

2025-26 Winner: Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid won the 2025‑26 Ted Lindsay Award. McDavid became the second five-time recipient in the trophy’s history, following wins in 2016‑17, 2017‑18, 2020‑21 and 2022‑23. The other: Wayne Gretzky. The Oilers’ captain also became the third-fastest player in NHL history to reach 1,200 career points (784 GP), behind only Gretzky (504 GP) and Mario Lemieux (593 GP). McDavid recorded his eighth season with at least 70 assists, tying Lemieux for the second-most such campaigns after Gretzky (15x). He finished with 138 points in 2025‑26 (48 goals, 90 assists) and claimed the Art Ross Trophy for the sixth time, tying Gordie Howe and Lemieux for second-most wins behind Gretzky (10).
