Stanley Cup

NHL Champion

About this trophy

Description: The most revered trophy in all of sports, the Stanley Cup is awarded annually to the National Hockey League champion. Also the oldest trophy in North American professional sports, the Stanley Cup has changed in size and shape over the years. The current version of the trophy is made of silver and nickel alloy, is almost 3 feet tall and weighs nearly 35 pounds.

2025-26 Winner: The Carolina Hurricanes surged through the first three rounds with the best record by a team entering a Stanley Cup Final under the best-of-seven format (since 1987) and stormed back in a championship series for the ages to win the Stanley Cup for the second time in franchise history – five days shy of the 20-year anniversary of the franchise’s first title. Carolina occupied a playoff spot the entire season; sat in first place in the Metropolitan Division from Dec. 11 onward; clinched an eighth consecutive postseason berth; and lost only one game against the Ottawa Senators (4‑0 in R1), Philadelphia Flyers (4‑0 in R2) and Montreal Canadiens (4‑1 in CF) to reach the championship series, where it reeled off three straight wins to overcome a 2‑1 deficit and defeat the Vegas Golden Knights in a historic Stanley Cup Final. The Hurricanes went 16‑3 during the entirety of the postseason, trailing only the 1988 Edmonton Oilers (16‑2) for the fewest losses by a Stanley Cup champion since all four rounds went to the best-of-seven format in 1987. Rod Brind’Amour, who first hoisted the trophy with Carolina in 2006, became the fourth individual in NHL history to captain a Stanley Cup winner and then lead that team to another championship as its head coach. He joined Toe Blake (w/ MTL), Hap Day (w/ TOR) and Cooney Weiland (w/ BOS).
